What should I expect from psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is an individualized approach that is based on a client’s individual needs. You can expect understanding and a nonjudgmental approach. You will receive the practical exchange of information, education, and activities that will allow you to make positive changes in your life. Action planning and setting of goals, not just talking – will be used and implemented. Openness, so that you feel comfortable and confident in sharing your issues and concerns will be always be used. Benefits include personal growth and development, overall mood improvement, goal achievement, developing coping skills, symptom reduction, and overall well-being.
How many sessions of psychotherapy will I need?
This depends on a variety of factors including the issues presented, the length of time between the issue presented and seeking treatment, and the severity of the issue. I typically recommend that a client attends weekly sessions for the first-month minimum and then this usually changes to bi-weekly depending on progress. For maintenance, I recommend monthly sessions after symptoms have entirely abated.
Is Psychotherapy covered by insurance?
Fees for Psychological services are covered by most extended health care plans. Please check with your insurance provider for your specific coverage amounts. Every psychotherapist in Ontario who practices independently must do so under the supervision of a Registered Psychological Associate or Psychologist. My immediate supervisor is Dr. Hugo Stevenson, Registered Psychologist. All sessions paid for under insurance will be billed in his name. Please contact me directly to discuss fees. A session fee will be applied for all appointments canceled less than 48 hours in advance of the booked session.
I do not have insurance, what are my options?
I do provide a reduced fee for those who do not have insurance and for those who have used up their insurance benefits. Please contact me for more information and details.
